May 3 - A female cashier saw someone crouched down walking pass the front windows of the service station. A white male wearing a dark colored bandana over his face quickly entered the station through the door by the cash register. Brandishing a dark hand gun, the robber demanded money from the attendant.
As he held a pistol in the young girl's face he said: "Give me your money or I will blow your head off." After the attendent gave him money from the cash register, the robber demanded money from the safe. The attendent backed up and pointed out there was no safe. The robber cused again and went out the door last seen walking toward the Littleville cemetery.
The attendent stated the robber was wearing a dark blue shirt With a dark colored bandana covering most of his face and head.
Haleyville police officers quickly arrived on the scene and began gathering information. Police investigator Tim Stiein reviewed the store's survelance video and the hunt was on for a suspect.

Haleyville Police report that 2 individuals have been arrested and charged with Robbery 1st degree after they planned and carried out the armed robbery of Whitmans Service Station on May 3rd 2008.
On Saturday May 3rd 2008 at Approximately 5:20am a masked man entered Whitmans and told the clerk to give him all the money, which she did then the subject asked for the money in the safe. She told him there was no safe. The clerk reported that the man then left on foot.
Arrested at 1:45 pm on May 5th and charged with Robbery 1st degree was William Bacon Phelps age 24 of 257 County Road 85, Haleyville and arrested at 10:46 am on May 6th was John Tyler Anderson age 21 of 380 County Road 402, Haleyville. They both are being held at the Winston Co. Jail under $500,000 bond.
Those agencies involved in the investigation were the Haleyville Police Department as well as the Jasper Police Department.
